Coley Porter Bell produces the goods in a brand new FMCG venture for client (and island) Inish Turk Beg

Coley Porter Bell, Ogilvy’s award-winning design and branding arm, has created a range of premium , artisan-made meat and fish products for client Inish Turk Beg.

Inish Turk Beg is an island off County Mayo, Ireland and is owned by entrepreneur Nadim Sadek – the founder and former head of market research company Sadek Wynberg Research before selling the business to WPP.

This next phase for the brand takes a leap into the retail sector, with the agency producing the packaging designs for smoked tuna (below), mackerel and salmon as well as streaky and back bacon (above).

The design specialists at CPB chose to ignore the clichés of plastic, see-through packaging and have designed a series of cardboard wallets which open to reveal the vacuum packed product.

The products are currently being sold in exclusive outlets including Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges and have already met with a successful reception – demand has outshone supply with sales 30% higher than forecast. Plans to extend the number of outlets are being finalised.

Look out for the unique typography designed by CPB which includes a sea horse-comma, sea gull quotation marks and hyphonated-fish! The island’s two resident pet pigs, Bubble and Squeak, also star on the front of the bacon products (neither Bubble nor Squeak was harmed in the making of Inish Turk Beg’s bacon, though they can be accused of hogging the limelight – Ed.)

Nadim Sadek, President and Chief Islander of Inish Turk Beg said: “Without a huge marketing budget to support the brand, design is our main channel of communication. So it is crucial to get it absolutely right. Coley Porter Bell has managed to convey that these are exceptional quality products without using any of the conventions of premium markets or packaged food.”
