#OgilvyChange, the specialist behavioural sciences practice of Ogilvy & Mather UK, is to host Nudgestock, the UK’s largest gathering of behavioural sciences experts on Friday 24th May at Shoreditch Town Hall. Hosted by O&M’s Vice-Chairman, Rory Sutherland, this one day event, taking place during Digital Shoreditch 2013, will see some of the biggest names in behavioural economics discussing online psychology, the science of understanding why people make irrational decisions and the art of nudging their choices for a preferred outcome.

Discussing the psychology behind the decisions individuals make will be some of UK’s leading behavioural scientists, award winning authors and personalities from the creative advertising and design industries including Rory Sutherland, Nassim Taleb, author of The Black Swan and Dr Laurie Santos from Yale University.

Rory Sutherland, Vice-Chairman, Ogilvy & Mather UK commented: “There is a big difference between invention and innovation. The best inventions in the world are worthless unless people choose to adopt them – and change their behaviour as a result. This conference is an important first step towards making technologists and psychologists natural bedfellows.”

Digital Shoreditch is an annual festival which celebrates and showcases the outstanding creative, technological and entrepreneurial talent in East London and Tech City. Now in its third year, Digital Shoreditch will run from 20th May to 31st May at Shoreditch Town hall.

Rory Sutherland, Vice-Chairman, Ogilvy & Mather UK, has been announced as Business Communicator of the Year 2013 by the UK Speechwriters’ Guild. The award is made to the most outstanding public speaker in business over the past 12 months.

The judges said: “Mr Sutherland sets an example in how wasteful it is to try to engage audiences with Excel spreadsheets and complex PowerPoint slides. He spreads optimism with insights like, ‘recession is the mother of invention’ and ‘human understanding is the future of business and Government’. These are the kind of sentiments that entertain audiences. Business leaders like Mr Sutherland, who can inspire audiences to try new things, will ultimately lead the way out of recession.”

The UK Speechwriters’ Guild was set up in 2009 to promote the interests and profile of speechwriters and raise standards of public speaking in the UK.

Ogilvy & Mather have created a new TV ad for Kronenbourg 1664 featuring Eric Cantona. The TV ad is part of a multi-media integrated campaign which includes, outdoor, digital and social media.

The ad shows French football legend Eric Cantona revealing his boundless admiration for the ‘hero hop farmers of Alsace’. The campaign unequivocally positions Kronenbourg 1664 as a reward for self-confident men who put taste first. It celebrates the brand’s distinctive taste and harnesses this product truth to set it apart from competitor brands.

The opening 30- seconds ad in a multi-million pound campaign – which broke nationally on February 4th – was filmed on location in the Alsace region of France, where Cantona is found musing that “the hop farmers are treated like the footballers of Britain” as the classic rock anthem , ‘We are the Champions’ plays in the background.
Jacco Van Der Linden, UK Marketing Director at HEINEKEN said: “The new ‘A Taste Suprême’ TV campaign is a humorous homage to the farmers in Alsace who nurture the highly-prized Strisselspalt hops that give Kronenbourg 1664 its exceptional taste and aroma.”

Gerry Human, Chief Creative Officer for Ogilvy & Mather London said:
“Getting Cantona onboard was a real coup – it’s hard to ignore a commercial that opens with him, but in the end it’s the tres chic hop farmers who are the real heroes.”

Ogilvy & Mather UK, is partnering with The Bishop Challoner Federation of Schools in Tower Hamlets, to offer students the opportunity to gain an insight into the industry through a number of key initiatives in 2013. This is part of Ogilvy’s ambition to nurture the next generation of talent and encourage greater diversity in the industry. The partnership between Ogilvy & Mather and Bishop Challoner was organised by The Worst Kept Secret (TWKS).

The new Emerging Talent Programmes will encompass;

Work experience placements - Ogilvy will offer ten Bishop Challoner students[i] work experience placements throughout summer 2013. The students will spend two weeks working in Ogilvy’s Canary Wharf office. Students who complete placements will also be offered the opportunity to be mentored by an Ogilvy employee for two years.

The brief day - Throughout 2013, Ogilvy will invite two groups of students into their office for a ‘brief’ day. These individuals will be given a tour around Ogilvy and an induction, and then presented with a brief, which with guidance from Ogilvy teams they will work on for the rest of the day before presenting back their ideas.

Careers clinics - Ogilvy employees will give talks in school assemblies and classrooms. The careers clinics will cover topics such as careers in the communications industry, CV writing, interviewing tips and how to get noticed when applying for jobs etc.

Nick Soar, Head of Girls’ School at Bishop Challoner commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with such a prestigious organisation as Ogilvy. As a school, we have taken great strides in moving our attainment levels up and once again this year we have seen record numbers of students excel in their exams. This partnership will help provide our students with even greater levels of aspiration, confidence and tools to take the first steps in their chosen careers. The creative heart of Ogilvy’s work mirrors how we nurture our own student’s imaginations. This synergy, coupled with leadership training and long-term professional mentoring make this partnership fresh, relevant and unique.”

Julia Ingall, UK Group HR Director at Ogilvy & Mather commented: “Our Emerging Talent programme is designed to make young people aware of the opportunities that exist within the communications industry. That it’s a profession which is open to a broad range of individuals, from many different backgrounds, so it’s an option should they wish to pursue it. We chose Bishop Challoner High School because we want to give something back to our local community in East London, where our biggest London office is located.”

Dowshan Humzah, Director, The Worst Kept Secret commented: “We are delighted to bring together two of the organisations we have worked with to develop this original and long-term relationship. This provides great opportunities for students at Bishop Challoner and allows them bridge the gap between what they learn at school, and what they need to succeed in the modern workplace.”
