Tony graduated from Exeter University in 1989 with a degree in economics and social history. After university, a particularly memorable recruitment ad enticed him onto a graduate traineeship at a shipping company. When this failed to float his boat, he thought he might try his hand at producing ads instead of replying to them.
Joining the F John French agency, which later became Osprey Communications, Tony learned the ropes over a period of six years working on a diverse range of clients from finance to personal grooming, at what was one of the first integrated agencies in the industry and became the agency’s youngest-ever director.
A move to Ogilvy & Mather in 1996 saw the beginning of a long association with the Ford brand, first as an account director on the Ford Dealers’ Advertising Association business, then on Ford of Britain. He was made account leader on Ogilvy’s Ford of Britain business in 2000 and two years later took overall charge of its Ford of Europe business as Managing Partner Europe, taking responsibility for the business in over 20 diverse markets
Tony now has responsibility for the Ford account globally and is also the WPP Lead across all the agencies engaged with Ford in Europe.
He is married with two daughters and his interests range from fitness to anything involving an engine!
